According to the Telegraph, president Nicolas Sarkozy told a public meeting that he wanted to prevent what he described as a “friendly” large American company (Read Google) taking away its digital heritage.
This seems like a U-turn from an official post(French National Library) made couple of months back where French officials expressed interest in working with Google to digitize the books.
What puzzles me is the fact that how taking help from Google would deprive France of its rich cultural resource. I guess it will help people across the globe understand the French culture better.
